The CIT (Center for Information Technology) and Computer Science Department offers a variety of professional certifications classes as well as programming classes transferable to four year institutions. Included within Butte College's CIT are the Cisco Academy, Microsoft Academy, CompTIA Security and A+. A Prometric and Pearson Vue Testing Center is located on campus to provide a convenient environment for professional testing.

The explosion of computers and networks has created a high demand for specialists to provide advice to users, as well as day-to-day administration, maintenance and support. According to the California EDD, Butte County jobs with the greatest future growth potential incude computer programming and system administration.
