Information for Faculty

BC Home > CAS >

English, LEAD, and all other faculty can download here a printable version of our Student Referral Form. This form is useful when referring students to a Reading and Writing Tutor. It allows you, the instructor, to select which aspects of the writing process you would like your student to focus on when working with the tutor, thus providing specific guidance to individual students.

Faculty Office Space managed by CAS can be reserved by Associate Faculty. LRC 282, located at the end of the faculty office hall on the main floor of the LRC, has two computer workstations that can be reserved for up to two hours per week. This room also has four drop-in computer workstations that faculty can use any time, and a phone, printer, and file cabinet for storage of papers and forms. In addition, one private office in LRC with the same services is also available for faculty to reserve up to two hours per week. Any member of the Associate Faculty can hold regular office hours in these spaces by reserving one of the workstations or the office at the beginning of the semester on a first-come, first-served basis.

For additional space where faculty may meet with a student or groups of students, LRC 210, which is located inside CAS, is also available on a drop-in basis, or it can be reserved ahead. A VCR/DVD player is available as needed. Contact Amy at 895-2808 or hughesam@butte.edu to check the schedule, request regular office hours, or reserve rooms for one-time use.

Classroom Presentations and CAS Tours may be arranged by instructors interested in a brief classroom orientation for their students or in bringing a group in for a tour. Please contact any of our Learning Resource Specialists for more information or to make special arrangements: Ann Shannon (shannonan@butte.edu, 895-2306), Monica Brown (brownmo@butte.edu, 895-2882), Kathleen Turner (turnerka@butte.edu, 895-2882), Jason Reisinger (reisingerja@butte.edu, 895-2882), or April Hennessy, Supplemental Instruction Supervisor (hennessyap@butte.edu, 895-2882).

Test Proctoring is available through CAS by prior arrangement with the instructor. Test proctoring is managed by the CAS Test Proctoring Technician, Susie Sierra, LRC 205. To have a test proctored, an instructor must complete the required form, available from Susie's office, and deliver the test with completed form attached in person to Susie's office. Please let students know that hours for test proctoring this semester are limited to Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Students must allow enough time to complete a test within this time period. You may contact Susie Sierra, CAS Test Proctoring Technician, at 893-7525 or sierrasu@butte.edu, or Amy Hughes at 895-2808 or hughesam@butte.edu for more information about this service. We cannot facilitate oral exams in CAS. Neither can we collect or track assignments or papers. Our top priority is security of tests, and we proctor exams for increasing numbers of instructors each semester. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Primarily used for student study groups and Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions, Group Study Rooms in CAS, as well as other meeting rooms inside CAS, are also suitable for staff and faculty meetings. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. The rooms have dry-erase boards and can seat from four to ten people comfortably at small, mobile tables. Current schedules are posted outside the rooms. Contact Amy at 895-2808 or hughesam@butte.edu to check the schedule or to request a reservation.
