2011-2012 SEASON OUTLOOK
The Roadrunners had another exciting and successful 2010-2011 season winning the Golden Valley Conference with a 9-1 mark, advancing to the second round of the California Community College State Tournament where they lost a road game to eventual state champion City College of San Francisco, and finishing the season with an overall 19-9 record. They were led by an outstanding sophomore class of Shawn Moore, Rex Holms, Drian Phillips, Nate Bradshaw, and Zach Stidham, who will certainly be missed. However, the time is here for the Roadrunners to prepare to face a challenging 2011-2012 schedule and defend their conference title.
This season’s non-conference schedule will have the Roadrunners participating in six strong tournaments starting with the Las Positas Tourney in Livermore November 10-12 and ending with the Allan Hancock Tourney in Santa Maria December 28-30. The Roadrunners will then open their Golden Valley Conference title defense on the road against a very talented Feather River squad on January 7th .
The 2011-2012 Roadrunners are short on experience, but not on heart nor the commitment to compete, have some talented returning core players from last season‘s veteran championship team and an outstanding recruiting class. Leading this core of returning players is Captain Maazin Butler, a 6’ guard from Seattle, Washington, with versatile offensive skills, good quickness, and a tough defender. He will be joined by sophomores (Captain) Tyler Randolph, a 6’2 sharpshooter out of Durham High School, and Masson Prowse, a 6’4” blue-collar player out of Sacramento who has a “gift for getting the ball”. Rounding out this returning group of sophomores is Darrius Jones, out of Florida, a 6’1” combo guard who also could help the Roadrunners this season.
The Roadrunners recruited an outstanding front line class who have a chance to provide an immediate impact this season. Up front the Runners will have sophomore transfers Josh Rolls-Tyson 6’8”, from London England, and Tearence Edwards, 6’5” out of Wisconsin. Both are athletic, skilled, and should provide the Runners with solid play at both ends of the court. Also vying for playing time up front will be freshmen Eural Black, 6’5”, athletic and long, out of Chicago, and Spencer Keables, another 6’5” interior player out of Hamilton High School recently returned from his Mormon mission. This talented group of front-line players can provide the Roadrunners strong interior play. Both Eural and Spencer have red-shirted for the Runners!
Also on this year’s team and a part of the recruiting class are talented and promising perimeter players capable of providing the Roadrunners with solid play. Aaron Dalton, a 5’9” sophomore point guard jet out ofis joined by freshmen Kenny Bell, 6’1” a combo guard out of LA, D’Nique Harris-Welch, 6’4” wing out of Seattle, and Tarek Dagher, 6’1” combo guard out of Lebannon. Rounding out this group of perimeter are two former local standout shooting guards in Bobby Lombardi 5’11” out of Orland High School, and Brett Patheal , 6’4”off guard. Bobby and Brett each “red-shirted” last season for the Runners!
The Roadrunners are gearing up for a very challenging season.
