Head Basketball Coach

Ron Brown enters his 5th season as Head Coach of the Women’s basketball program at Butte College. In the four previous seasons Brown has captured two conference titles 2008 & 2011. Since taking over the program in 2007, Brown has taken his team to four consecutive post seasons. Under Brown’s direction eleven players have been honored with all conference, a Newcomer of the year and MVP.

Growing up in Lynwood Ron, the youngest of three children from parents Ronald Sr. and Frances Taylor, with siblings Tashonda Brown-Lewis married to Dwayne Lewis and two children living in Dallas.  Tahia Brown- Hayslet married to Darrell Hayslet and two children still make their home near Lynwood, living in Long Beach.  

After high school Ron attended Mira Costa College located in Oceanside, where he played basketball for two seasons for hall of fame coach Clete Adelmen.  While in Oceanside Brown was introduced to Tami Esquibel who he married in 2000. Coach Adelmen has since retired from coaching but is credited with teaching Brown valuable life lessons.  Brown was later recruited by Puck Smith and the Chico State Wildcats, and as a senior in 1996 Brown was named team captain. With a career high 35points, and a single game with 19 rebounds Brown ranks amongst Chico State's best.

After his playing days at Chico State, Brown started his coaching career at his alma mater and spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Puck Smith. In 1998, then first year Butte College Coach Russ Critchfield hired Brown to be the top assistant. Working for two outstanding coaches in Russ Critchfield and Puck Smith, Brown honed his skills and is ready to lead his own program

Educated at Chico State in 1999 Brown earned his master’s degree in Physical Education, while earlier 1996 earned a bachelor’s in Ethnic Studies. Brown just 38, enters his 15th season coaching in Butte County. Ron and Tami have lived in Chico since 1993.

Assistant Basketball Coach

Chad Scott, 40, served as player/coach overseas for the men's professional basketball club in Amman, Jordan and head coach of the Champville Jr. National team in Jounieh, Lebanon during 2000-03 seasons.

Prior to his arrival at Butte College in 2007, Scott spent 10 years playing professional basketball overseas, where he gained his professional knowledge of the sport. Scott has played all over the world in places such as China, for numerous teams in South America, Belgium, France, Turkey, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and many other leagues around the world.

An Oroville native, Scott attended Las Plumas High school, and his credited with being one of the top players ever to play in the Northern Section. Scott is a 1989 graduate of Las Plumas and earned an athletic scholarship to Oregon State University 1989-19993. In 1993 Scott was honored to the All Pac-Ten team.

Scott then pursued his professional basketball carrier overseas. Retired from playing in 2003, Scott moved back home to pursue his dream of coaching, and working with the youth.
