What is interlibrary loan?
A service that borrows any books or articles that we don't own from another library.
Where is interlibrary loan located?
On the second floor of the Main campus Library, LB 211.

Who is eligible to use the service?
Currently enrolled students, faculty and staff.
How long does it take?
Usually about 1 week from local libraries. Items from more distant libraries may take a bit longer.
Does it cost anything?
Books are usually free. Articles may often cost $10 or more. The patron indicates the amount (s)he is willing to pay.
What items are available?
Books and articles that are not owned by Butte College.
What items are not available?
Textbooks, audio-visual items, titles we own, reference books, genealogy, whole issues of periodicals, software, maps. Some libraries refuse to lend new books.
How do I use interlibrary loan?
Submit a request form in person or an electronic request form. One item per form. No telephone requests, please.
Where do I pick up and return interlibrary loans?
At the Interlibrary Loan office in LB 211 at the Main library.
How long can I keep the loaned material?
The lending library sets this - usually 2 or 3 weeks.
Can I renew the loan?
Only if the lender allows it. Please give us 3 days notice if you want to renew.
What are my responsibilities?
ALWAYS check the book catalog or periodical databases (EBSCO, Proquest, etc.) before requesting an interlibrary loan.
Fill out forms completely and accurately.
Limit your requests to 5 at a time, including those already filled or in process.
Pick up and return items on time. Fines for lost, damaged or overdue books may be set by lender.
Fees not paid will be placed on your college account.
Non-compliance with procedures may jeopardize your interlibrary loan privileges.
