CalWORKs PROGRAM INFORMATION
Program Purpose
The California Community College CalWORKs Program serves eligible students by providing an array of support services that assist students to complete their educational goals, find meaningful employment, and successfully transition into the workforce.
Eligible Students at Butte College
- TANF/CalWORKs recipients who are receiving cash aid and have or are developing a Welfare-to-Work (WTW) plan that refers them to the college for education and training
- Must be in good standing at Butte College
- Exempt CalWORKs Recipients (must have an education plan developed with clear goals for completion)
- Cal-Learn students (not eligible for work-study)
Not Eligible
- Sanctioned students (If a student has been sanctioned during a term, services can be provided until end of term: sanction must be cured by end of term for services to continue for the next term)
- Students who are not receiving cash aid - only their children are
- Students who are receiving only food stamps
- Students who have "timed-out" of the welfare system
- Tribal TANF students
- Students on SSI (not receiving CalWORKs/TANF cash assistance)
Support Services at Butte College (some services dependent on current year funding):
- Coordination of college student services
- Work-study
- Subsidized child care
- Job Readiness/Job Search Workshops
